Iceland is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Breathtaking landscapes that feature glaciers, volcanos, geysers and waterfalls attract adventure seekers and travelers from all over the world. Iceland’s beauty is only skin deep, for its spiritual climate is as barren as its cold winter. Less than 1% of Icelanders attend church services regularly, and the vast majority do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Multiple churches from northern Virginia, in partnership with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and LINC-UP Missions Inc., have committed to encourage a church planting movement among the Icelandic people. Since 2006, the Iceland Project ministry team has been sharing the gospel and encouraging national believers. God’s favor is already evident in many ways, especially in the area of ministry to university students in the capital city of Reykjavik.
